Name: JOY FOUNTAIN
Salon: ALL STAR AND BEYOND
3101 W. Michigan Avenue
An Alumni of Pensacola Junior College’s cosmetology department, Joy specializing in classy “up-dos”, exotic sew-in styles and braids. However, this dynamic young lady prides herself in doing it all. If you want “old school” press and curl, color or if you are in the now with cornrows, microws, ceramic fusion, or designer braids she will hook you up. Black hair styles and designs are perfected skillfully once you commit to her station. Just tell her what you want or check out her portfolio of the latest looks to chose the hair style you want.
This professional stylist likes the challenge of natural hair styles and can deliver tree braids, no-knot braids, dreads or any creative style at the drop of a request. She does cuts and styles for male as well as female clients who want a stylist with gifted hands.
Joy really started practicing her techniques on family and friends when she was only twelve and she credits her sister, who still gives her pointers, with her ability to do the intricate braid designs. Her cousin who has been a stylist for over twenty-five years in Fort Walton Beach, Florida also provides inspiration, ideas and advice.
She believes in helping others and does not mind sharing her knowledge and hair care skills. Joy feels that the hair care industry needs to be more open and inclusive. “We should not feel as though we are competing because there is enough work for everyone,” she says. Her dream is to see a Black Salon Franchise and more of the salons offering health and other benefits to attract the best stylist.
Her goal is to establish a rapport with each potential client so that she totally understands exactly what hair style they want and the best technique for the best results.
Even in 1998, when she rented her first booth in the shop where she interned, Mother and Daughter Salon, she knew that she eventually wanted to open a shop of her own. This dream has evolved into getting a degree in massage therapy to compliment her cosmetology finesse and having her “very own” hair line.
Her hours are Tuesday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 6:00 a.m.-12:00p.m.
