Jennifer Foster
A 1998 graduate of Thelma's Beauty Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas, Ms. Foster now operates Hair Favor by Jennifer in Greensboro, North Carolina.
She has been published in Black Hair Sophisticates, Hype Hair and Universal Salons. In 2005 she was selected as the stylist for Dudley Products' Pain and Ache Commercial.
Jennifer is a stylist who does make-up to enhance the total appearance of her clientele. "I always tell people, I'm a cosmetologist by nature not by choice. It is my God given talent to create exceptional hair styles and minister to the total woman", says Ms. Foster. "I am not afraid to say no to a client when it is in her best interest or if the request goes against my work ethics; not everybody understands that different hair textures must be considered when selecting a hairstyle. Looking at hairstyle photos in Black Hair Magazines does not necessarily translate to what works best for a client"
The North Carolina Cosmetology Board requires that each stylist complete twenty-four hours of training every three years. Jennifer is so dedicated to her profession she has already had sixty hours of advanced courses in the last two years.
Ms. Foster affirms you have to truly like people to be a successful cosmetologist. "Each person comes to your salon with a different need and you must have the passion to minister to each one differently." She says also, "People know when they are just a pay check and no matter what hair styles your salons offer they have to know you care. If you want to attract a loyal clientele who appreciate you and the hair styles you create add some TLC".
She would like to expand her establishment when the right fit comes along to no more than maybe five or six employees because she wants to maintain the image of being a intimate family oriented hair salon.
